Zeena & Maya Abou-Jaoude, identical twin sisters have become the ambassadors of twins and multiples in Ghana. Twins and multiples are their heart song and passion. Over the past five years, they have met and continue to meet hundreds of twins. Their world of twins and multiples became part of their lives when they founded the Ghana Twins Foundation in 1999. They feel an affinity with all twins. They are always keen to get together with other twins because of the closeness and bond they feel.
Their compassion and general concern for the welfare of hundreds of deprived twins on the streets of Ghana saw the emergence of the Ghana Twins Foundation, a non-governmental organization promoting the intellectual and social welfare of twins. Its objectives are to increase awareness of the special needs of twins and multiple births families, to assist in improving the social and economic well being of deprived and needy twins in the Ghanaian society, and to offer support for parents facing challenges in raising twins and other multiple births.
The twin sisters who love charity and humanitarian work continue to educate people on the proper upbringing of twins through the media and TV appearances. They have advocated the cause of twins through interviews on radio stations and televisions. Zeena & Maya have appeared in numerous newspapers and International magazines and have won awards for their dedicated efforts. Their desire is to help twins develop their potential and thus have embarked on numerous humanitarian and charitable programmes for underprivileged twins. Zeena and Maya have proven through their Twins Foundation work that they are able to unite twins, advocate for the cause of twins, transform underprivileged and otherwise challenged twin and other multiple birth families, provide education and assist twins and their street mothers. They continue to work to strengthen the assistance programmes of the Twins Foundation, reaching out to the many deprived twin and other multiple birth children whose only hope of a life beyond bare survival is that which the Twins Foundation brings to them. |
