BACKGROUND
The Ghana Twins Foundation (GTF) was formed in June 1999 by a set of twins genuinely concerned for the welfare of deprived twins. It is a non-governmental organization promoting the social and economic well being of deprived and needy twins in the Ghanaian society, giving support to the challenges facing parents in raising twins and multiple births. It’s objective is to increase awareness of the special needs of twins and advocate for their rights.
The Ghana Twins Foundation since its inception in June 2000 has demonstrated a commitment to improving the quality of life of unfortunate twins by providing education, care and support to these twins. Our activities have being widely covered in the media locally and internationally.
MISSION
To enable a change in social policy, legislation and cultural practices in the interest of underprivileged children (street children, twins etc.) through partnership with civil society organizations worldwide, particularly national and global network of twin organisations to promote and protect the rights of children in Ghana who have no access to education, health care, protection, parental care and justice.
GOALS
The main goals of the Ghana Twins Foundation are:
- To primarily help economically distressed twins and their mothers in the streets and elsewhere; this assistance is intended to remove street children, particularly twins and their mothers from the streets and eventually empower them to lead more productive and fulfilling lives.
- To educate parents of twins in the proper upbringing of their multiple children and raise awareness on the dangers and legal implications of begging with twin children.
- To engage in humanitarian service activities.
- To lobby government to enforce all legislations on children begging on the streets.
- To make education accessible to needy twins.
